11/15 Saturday 17:00-20:00 on the 3rd floor.
Would you like to solder and assemble your own synthesizer? Join us on November 14th for the third “Synthesis Minority” offline workshop! This session, held during our communications event, will guide participants through building the Cricket, a small, electronic noise instrument you can make yourself.
Cricket is a unique electronic instrument specially created by Meng Qi for workshops. As a solar-powered glitch noise gadget, it has been featured at Berlin’s Superbooth and the “Truth” Garden exhibition at Duorina Art Gallery. Across social media, users have shared many creative and quirky ways to play it.
During the workshop, you’ll take center stage in bringing Cricket to life—beginning with loose components and bare circuit boards, you’ll assemble them into a fully functioning device. You’ll get hands-on experience with steps like screen printing, applying solder paste, and soldering at a heating station, watching as the Cricket takes shape. Like a newly transformed creature, your instrument will start to “chirp” in the autumn “jungle.” Along the way, you’ll pick up essential knowledge about electronic components, making this a fun and valuable blend of creativity and technical learning.
