Ola Moonk

Ola Moonk is the artist name of Peter de Haan, a Dutch sound artist and instrument-maker whose relationship with sound spans thirty years. Long before modular synthesis, his hands were already shaping instruments — a practice that has produced more than 3,000 hand-built drums and led to hundreds of workshops and circles. That same instinct for building things from the ground up carried over naturally into Eurorack: alongside longtime collaborator Paul Tas of Errorinstruments, Ola Moonk both performs and builds, soldering modules as readily as he plays them.

His music sits in dark, industrial, and experimental electronic territory, built live on a modular system alongside a Moog Mother-32, DFAM, and Subharmonicon. Regular trips through Asia have connected him with the region’s underground scenes — live sessions and performances in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Hanoi, including the EP 31°N 121°E (Shanghai Jams), recorded live in Shanghai with Paul Tas and Laurent Lettree under the name Error, Moonk & Lettree.

For Modular Commune, Ola Moonk is preparing a new set built specifically for playback over a surround sound system — extending his hands-on, physical approach to sound into a fully spatial dimension.
