Creative procrastination from making music by making things to make music with

创造性拖延：为了做音乐，转而去制作能用来做音乐的工具

Jason H. J. Lim is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer who turned his focus toward creative instrument design primarilly within the Eurorack modular format. For 10 years he has led Instruō towards becoming the creative collective it is today.

This workshop will explore a brief history of Instruō’s module design, progression of design philosophies both in solo and collaborative contexts, and how much commonality there is between hardware design and music composition.

From the beginning of Instruō a very prominent focus was placed on “process”. Jason documented the design and production stages of his modules and presented these to a similar level as the products themselves. Of the current range of available Instruō modules there are many that have never been seen outwith the workshop. Some are “failed” experiments, many are proofs of concept that lead towards their final forms, and several are still works in progress!

Let’s follow the design chronology of Instruō modules and talk about how to procrastinate from making music, by making things to make music with – but then continuing to do that more because it’s also really fun.

让我们沿着 Instruō 模块的设计时间线，聊聊如何通过制作「用于创作音乐的工具」来「拖延」实际的音乐创作——但随后又因为这过程实在太有趣，而忍不住继续投入其中。
