Philip Gelb

Philip Gelb is a vegan chef and musician that plays shakuhachi and Buchla modular synthesizer and is based in Oakland California. He has performed all over the United States and in Canada, Japan, Europe and Thailand. He had a long association with his mentor, the legendary composer, Pauline Oliveros, recording and performing in a trio, duet and many other combinations with her as well as performing under ensembles led by George Lewis, Butch Morris, Karl Berger, and Vinny Golia along with his own solo an ensemble projects. After close to a decade of performing music, he returned 2 years ago and now has projects based in Oakland Bangkok. In fall, 2026 he makes his first performances in Beijing, Hanoi and northern Thailand, solo and in duets with Kantaphong Khamcharoen, Ham Tanid and other Thai musicians. This winter, several new recordings will be released; solo, trio with Pauline Oliveros and Dana Reason, duet with Thomas Dimuzio and trio with Dana Reason and Kyle Bruckmann.
